The first time I heard of vegan tuna, I have to admit, I was very skeptical. Fish has a very distinct taste that I didn’t think could be replicated. So when my friend Renee saw one of my videos where my friend Kristin tried vegan pulled pork, she was intrigued. We connected and decided to meet at Freesoulcaffe to try some vegan food. We decided to order a vegan tuna sandwich, vegan egg panini frittata, brussels sprouts and a key lime pie!
TIME TO TRY SOME VEGAN FOOD
First, we started off the meal with the vegan tuna sandwich. After the first bite, she was blown away. Renee considers herself a tuna connoisseur and she didn’t understand how it wasn’t tuna. It tasted like tuna, it looked like tuna and even had the same texture as tuna. She even decided to pick the tuna out of the sandwich just to see how it tasted by itself. To her surprise, it still tasted like tuna!
Next up were some charred brussels sprouts, made with dates, chili flakes and garlic. Renee is a big fan of dates, but having them served with brussels sprouts is definitely something she has never tried. Once again, the brussels sprouts didn’t disappoint.
Once the tuna and brussels sprouts passed the test, it was on to maybe the toughest item yet, the vegan egg frittata. It was the same reaction she had with the tuna. Of course, she was amazed the egg was vegan. She even tried the egg by itself, just like the tuna.
Finally, we finished off the meal with dessert, and Renee couldn’t resist the vegan key lime pie. This key lime pie was voted one of the best in Orange County and Renee agreed. The flavor and consistency was perfect. This dessert received Renee’s stamp of approval.
From the vegan tuna sandwich to the vegan key lime pie, Renee was impressed with all the vegan food she tried. I have a feeling she’ll be grabbing some more vegan food again soon!
