As you may or may not be aware of, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis over 10 years ago. After struggling for many years, I took the advice of a friend and had a green juice. It was this action that started me on my journey to living healthier and transitioning to a plant-based diet. It’s hard to believe that I was once told not to eat much raw food, especially veggies, as they would upset my stomach. I’ve started thinking about this a lot recently as I have been working on an ebook, which will go into detail my journey of being diagnosed with colitis…talk about where I am now…and everything in between.
So I decided that I wanted to make the ultimate green juice, packed with as many ingredients that I could find. I was on a mission. I walked to the store and proceeded to buy 24 ingredients! You heard that right…24 ingredients! As a kid, I would never eat my veggies, and when I first starting having green juices, I needed to make sure it had a lot of fruit! A straight green juice was out of the question. It’s amazing how my taste buds changed over time. I actually crave a good green juice now that is packed with healthy greens!
Most of the items for this experiment were green veggies, a few pieces of fruit and of course, some ginger and turmeric. The great thing about making your own fresh juice at home is that you can control the flavor. You can use more of what you like to make it taste a certain way. I had no idea how all these flavors would taste together since I used only a small amount from each ingredient. After assembling the juicer and juicing all 24 ingredients, it was time to taste the juice. I now understand why you don’t see many juices with this many ingredients. There were so many flavors, it ruined the overall taste, as you can see by my reaction in the video. Needless to say, I will not be making this again, but the adventure was a lot of fun!
